AVMA Veterinary Student Externship
About the Externship:
Miamitown Pet Hospital is excited to offer a paid externship opportunity for veterinary students seeking hands-on clinical experience. This externship is designed to help students build confidence in all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery while working alongside an experienced veterinary team.
Our team includes five veterinarians, four licensed veterinary technicians, and six veterinary assistants. This externship goes beyond shadowing. Students are encouraged to actively participate in patient diagnosis and treatment, as well as, assist with surgical procedures.
As a busy small animal general practice, we offer exposure to a diverse caseload and encourage students to think through cases, ask questions, and develop their clinical skills at a pace that matches their experience and comfort level.
MPH is a privately owned practice, giving you the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the business. The facility was expanded and completely remodeled in 2021. The clinic is equipped with new digital radiography, ultrasound, surgical monitoring equipment, anesthesia machines, and microscopes.
What You’ll Experience
- Duration is between 2-4 weeks, 36-40 hours per week (days & times will vary and are flexible)
- Opportunities to assist with appointments, diagnostics, treatment planning, and surgeries
- Hands-on involvement based on your comfort level and experience
- One-on-one mentorship and guidance from experienced veterinarians
- Insight into both the medical and day-to-day operations of a private practice
